Raymond Tung

City University of New York

Unraveling the Schottky Barrier Mystery

Short Biography

Raymond Tung received a BS in physics from National Taiwan University. After his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pennsylvania, he joined Bell Laboratories and worked on epitaxial growth of silicides, SBH characterization, ion beam analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and other projects. He developed an analytic theory on electron transport for inhomogeneous Schottky barrier heights and also a model that explained Fermi level pinning with bond polarization. Since joining the faculty of Brooklyn College of the City University of New York as a professor of physics, he has focused on theoretically understanding the formation of band offset at semiconductor heterojunctions and, more recently, the formation mechanism of Schottky barrier height.
